How will the student fee increase be used?

The funds will be used to renovate and expand the current Recreation Center, including ongoing facility maintenance and operations.

How does ASI know what the students want?

During winter and spring quarters 2007, members of ASI Student Government held discussions with various student groups regarding space issues within the Recreation Center. The response from students was an overwhelming support to expand the Recreation Center in its current location and upgrade the upper Sports Complex fields to include synthetic playing surfaces.

When will construction begin and what is the expected completion?

Design / Plans / Approvals - April '08 - May '09

Construction - June '09 - June '11

Will the facility be open during construction?

Yes. ASI will make every effort to ensure that construction on the Rec Center will have as little impact on guests as possible. The facility will remain open and program areas will operate as normally, as possible. When work is not directly occurring in an area, every effort will be made to keep it open, within reasonable health and safety parameters. Areas in which work is occurring are likely to be offline.

Are the renderings in the gallery really what it is going to look like?

These conceptual renderings were commissioned by the campus architect to assist students in visualizing the potential for the expanded Rec Center. Once the appointed architect(s) have been hired, new renderings will be displayed.

Will there be a sauna or steam room added?

At this time, no. This was not identified as a priority feature by the students.

Will there be black lights in the fitness room?

Although exact lighting specifications have not yet been determined, ASI is looking into a variety of lighting options including black lights.
